I admit it, I’m getting old. I forget things. I forget who characters are. The Kindle gives me the ability to go back instantly and remind myself who this guy is. In fact, I can go back to the last book in a series and quickly remind myself of his or her exploits instantly. I can look up some country I never heard of because my last geography class was in the 50’s, using either the included dictionary or the (admittedly slow) connection via Whispernet (I don’t have 3G coverage) to Wikipedia. I can look up words that in the past I just ignored to find out their exact meaning. I love my Kindle for all its “high tech” abilities!

But I also love the fact that I don’t lose track of my page when I put the book down suddenly to answer the phone and my hand doesn’t hurt after hours of reading from straining to hold the book open. The screen is visible outdoors and indoors and I don’t have any eyestrain after hours of reading.

I admit, having grown up in a house with a three story library complete with rolling ladders, that there is a part of me that feels guilty about abandoning books. But, now I am not throwing out books either because there is simply no more room in the house for them. I am not making decisions about who gets to stay and who is taken to Goodwill or to the trash.

I’ve used the Kindle not only for Amazon books, but also for “public domain” books from other sources and been happy with each. Frankly, reading regular books now I find to be a chore.

Arrived quickly. Product exactly as described and seems to clean well so far. Easy to carry and all the attachments were a nice bonus. Assembly is not intuitive, but reading the directions does help.
